Custom Cabinetry & Architectural Millwork

Custom Cabinets in Lexington, KY

Lexington Custom Cabinets designs, builds, finishes, and installs custom cabinetry and architectural millwork for homeowners and businesses throughout the Lexington-Fayette County area. Our fully insured in-house team handles residential cabinetry, commercial millwork, and cabinet restoration from the first design conversation through installation and final quality assurance.

We study how you actually use your space so the cabinetry improves the way the room works every day. That means making better use of storage, creating a more natural flow, and designing around the way you live or work. We also guide you through materials, finishes, and samples so the final result is not only functional, but thoughtfully designed with real craftsmanship and taste.

Custom Cabinets Lexington

Most cabinetry sold as custom in central Kentucky is a factory line with modified widths. That works until the room stops cooperating. Older Lexington homes in districts like Gratz Park and Ashland Park have walls that are out of plumb, ceilings that are not the height the catalogue assumes, and original trim worth working around rather than tearing out. Cabinetry built to a standard grid solves that with filler strips.

We build the box to the measurement instead. Field verification happens before fabrication, not during installation. Both of those steps cost us time upfront and save you a callback in the second year.

The usual approachCabinets ordered from a catalogue grid, then packed out with filler strips wherever the room disagrees.
How we do itBoxes built to the actual wall dimension, then scribed on site so the run reads as one piece of millwork.

Why this shop

Built by the people who install it

There is no handoff here. The person who measures your room is connected to the person who cuts the joinery and the person who hangs the doors. When a wall turns out to be three quarters of an inch out over eight feet, that gets solved in the shop rather than covered on site.

We will also tell you when custom is the wrong answer. If your existing boxes are sound and the layout still works, refacing or refinishing costs a fraction of replacement and gets you most of the visual change. That conversation happens at the quote, not after the deposit.

  • Cabinetry built to your dimensions, not modified from a catalogue grid
  • Material acclimated before joinery is cut, so seasonal movement is designed for
  • Field verification before fabrication, including appliance and utility positions
  • One shop accountable from first measurement through final adjustment

Process

How a project runs

  1. Measure and listen

We measure the room and ask how you actually use it, which appliances stay, where the light falls, and what fails about the current layout.

  2. Drawings and samples

You see a plan drawn to your dimensions plus real door, species, and finish samples in your own light before anything is cut.

  3. Field verify

Before fabrication we confirm walls, floors, trim, utilities, and appliance specs. This is the step that keeps a build from arriving 3/8 inch wrong.

  4. Build and install

Cabinetry is built for the project, finished, then set, shimmed, and scribed on site. Doors and drawers are adjusted before we call it done.

Service area

Where we build and install

We build in the shop and deliver on our own flatbeds, so larger runs travel without being broken down. Installation typically takes one to three days.

Common questions

Custom cabinet FAQs

How much do custom cabinets cost in Lexington?
Fully custom cabinetry generally runs between $500 and $1,200 per linear foot installed nationally, with the spread driven by door style, species, finish system, and interior hardware more than by anything else. A standard 10 by 10 kitchen holds roughly 20 linear feet of run. We publish the full breakdown, including how to read a per-linear-foot quote correctly, in our Lexington cabinet cost guide.
What is the difference between custom, semi-custom, and stock cabinets?
Stock cabinets ship pre-assembled in fixed 3-inch width increments. Semi-custom starts from a manufacturer line and modifies size, door style, and finish. Fully custom means the box is built to your wall dimension rather than the nearest standard size, which is what lets cabinetry fit an out-of-square room without filler strips doing the hiding.
How long does a custom cabinet project take?
Fully custom cabinetry nationally runs 8 to 16 weeks from approved drawings to installation, because the build does not start until the design is signed off and the space has been field verified. Installation itself is usually one to three days depending on the size of the run. Call for a current lead time, since it moves with the shop schedule.
Do you build cabinets outside Lexington?
Yes. We build in the shop and install across central Kentucky, including Louisville, Georgetown, Richmond, Nicholasville, Frankfort, Winchester, Danville, and other communities within roughly an hour of Lexington. Larger runs travel on our own flatbeds, so distance affects scheduling more than it affects what we can build.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. Quotes are free and come with no obligation. Call 859-407-6850 or send the form on this page with the room, rough dimensions, and your timeline, and we will come measure the space.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Kentucky does not issue a statewide general contractor license for most residential work. Licensing is local, so contractors working in Fayette County register with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government through its Division of Building Inspection after filing proof of insurance. Electrical and plumbing work is handled by separately licensed trades, which matters when a project moves a sink or adds undercabinet lighting.
